You're right, those games do lose their luster. And, a Cincy or BC could win it all, although highly unlikely. If the top 8 or top 16 teams according to the BCS with playoff spots are rewarded playoff spots instead of giving autobids to certain conferences, I think the regular season games would still hold just as much weight.

Sure, losses wouldn't count as much, but you tell me who is definitively the best team in the B12?

Do you see the contradiction there? There's really zero question that a playoff would reduce the significance of the regular season. That's just a fact. The question is whether or not you believe that devaluing the regular season is worth whatever advantages you find in a playoff. For me, it's not even close, because I believe that a playoff is also a worse way to crown "the best team," among other reasons.
In my judgment (the same thing that tells us that Boise State isn't as good as Alabama), Texas is the best and most deserving team out of the Big 12. They did lose to Texas Tech, but on the road and at the last second. If we establish that Texas and OU are the two best teams in the Big 12, which I think most people believe, then the deciding factor is that Texas beat Oklahoma on a neutral field.

I should have said almost as much weight. Not just as much weight. Poor word choice.

I honestly don't know who is better between Texas and OU. I will readily admit that I want a playoff system for purely selfish reasons. I think it would be much more entertaining. But I don't think it would hurt the regular season as much as you do.

Regardless, I like the BCS much more than just letting the polls decide the championship.

why dont you go take a look at a true post about how oklahoma is completely undeserving of being in that game...they cant even compete in a big game they blow all their bowl games and it will be a shame to see a team that blows every bowl game to be in a national championship

I understand why a Longhorns fan would talk shit about OU, but the fact is that they have the same number of national championships in the last decade that Texas does, and Oklahoma has won far more of the head to head match-ups over that period. This year Texas won, which is why I believe they're more deserving of a spot in the title game, but it's silly to pretend like Oklahoma is undeserving.

I hate to break it to you buddy but Texas has won far more games in the red river shootout so get some facts correct before you start throwing out incorrect facts...by the way Texas- 58 wins- OU- 40
