True, but by 2004 the rose was off the bloom and people started wanting more than he can give. The Weinke lovers were wanting their guy in the game and felt like he could do it better. This year the role of Chris Weinke will be played by David Carr. (kinda like getting Ed Norton Jr. to replace one of the Wilson brothers in your movie)

I don't know that anyone here thought Keyshawn was "all that", but at this point we've got Smitty and then unknowns. Yeah we've seen glimmers from Carter, and his first year Colbert was good, but can he be good again? While we have high hopes for Jarrett, the fact is he may struggle his first year even if he is indeed destined for greatness. And not having a true threat across the field from Smitty will have significant affect on what Smitty can do. I think that's what most are saying though I can't really speak for them - it's not that the team sinks or swims depending on Key, it's just that we have to have a #2 who at least concerns defenses or they'll put their weak guy on the #2 and shift two solid players onto Smitty.

If folks have to respect our running it would even things out a little. I still have hopes of marginalizing the loss of a wiley "on the downside but can still play" #2 WR.

the litmus test on Keyshawn is this - say he went down first practice. ACL. Done. How would people react? Essentially, that's what happened since we gained nothing from letting him go.

As for the team overall, I still believe we're a worse team than we were early Monday. That it's gloom and doom? This team's done more with less, and that's the encouraging and frustrating thing of it. It's almost not a matter of lining up and being able to outplay/outcoach. It seems more dependent on which way the streak is going.
