sorry but I got to go all Metro on your ass here.

Being a UNC fan that went to another school I get my own share of grief.

I was a UNC fan since the age of six and still am today - in all sports too not just basketball.

But if ASU ever plays UNC in any sport I will always pull for ASU. Not that they likely have a chance to beat them but I would be pulling for them all the way. Even if a UNC loss meant they got knocked out of a bowl game or didn't make the NCAA tourney.

You got to root for your alma mater first. Doesn't mean you can't still be a rabid fan for your lifelong team but c'mon...

Wossa is exactly right. Sorry sock but i cant defend you here. You say you grew up cheering for Duke since you could walk. Well, I was the same way with the Tar Heels. Both of my parents graduated from UNC and they turned me into a hardcore Heels fan. But you better believe if the Niners and Heels ever face off again, Im gonna be decked out in Niners gear, heckling ole Roy til he cries. I hate when people say "but ive been a fan of them all my life." That crap doesnt fly with me because I was a fan of the Tar Heels all my life. It doesnt matter what sport it is, soccer, bball, friggin volleyball, I would pull for my Niners to not just beat UNC, but to CRUSH them. No one is saying you should stop being a fan (psst dont tell anyone, I still want the Heels to do well), we are just saying its pretty beat up to pull for a school that you never went to over the one you attend and will graduate from.

Well as much as it galls me, I have to side with suckit on this one. I support the teams of the schools I went to, but I've always been a Carolina fan first and foremost. When UNC played one of my schools, I went to the game and wore my blue.

you're right, b/c he'll abandon ship and hang one of his assistants out to dry. classy, coach, classy.

oh yeah, then he'll petition the NCAA to remove those losses from his record. way to stick by your team, coach.

The team will most likely be in the hands of Johnny Dawkins after Coach K is gone. He won't be as good as Coach K, but I don't think any replacement would be.

Since when has dook lost its top 7 scorers in 1 season? Hell K went apeshit when Carawell left. He'd fuckin have a major stroke if he were faced with what Roy is this year. UNC has a chance at making the tournament this year, but I feel they'll be a bubble team. That doesn't mean they make it or don't but that's REALISTIC expectations. No different than the dook fan better EXPECT dook to make it to the FInal 4. Anything less for them is a failure. I won't say they should win it all, but they should at least be good enough to get there.

I agree with you that Coack K has never had to replace 7 players. The year after Carrawell left was the year they won the national championship. Carrawell was one of those players that Coach K got the most out and was a product of the system but was a good player and won ACC player of the year, but he was the only player that Duke lost going into their championship year. Every player at Duke excluding the sophomores and freshmen on this year's Duke class since the class Johnny Dawkins' was in (High School class of '82) has played in at least one final four. There are only two key players that I can think of who haven't played in a final four at Duke in the past 25 years or so and that's Ricky Price and WoJo from that 94-95 class. Langdon was part of that class, but redshirted and played in the '99 final four. That's pretty amazing.

Yes, because it makes ever so much more sense to support a school you're going to for reasons that have nothing at all to do with whether or not you actually like it, and then abandon a school you've pulled for your whole life. To me, the people who do that are sell-outs. I gave my due support to my schools when they played anyone except for UNC, but I'm not going to change my allegiance just because I enrolled somewhere else. Going to multiple schools only illustrates how silly it is to abandon your real favorite for whatever university you went to, because then you would end up not knowing which school you're supposed to pull for.
