I’m just curious . . . what did Atlanta part with to move up for Vick, and what position were they sitting at before that move?
Whatever the price, it was worth it. He is probably going to make people forget about how good guys like Favre and McNabb are pretty soon. He just might end up his career at the top of the “greatest ever” list.
Guys like Unitas were great but watching Vick play is jaw dropping at times. It’s a little like comparing The Poseidon Adventure to Titanic. They are both great movies for their time but which one is more entertaining?

Actually, watching Shelly Winters and Ernest Borgnine flop around in the water is pretty amusing stuff for some of us . . . I guess.)

The day he declared for the draft, I said the Panthers need to what it takes to draft him. I said Vick was like the Holy Graile of Qb's and got laughed at for saying that on the old Chatlotte.com board. Might as well get used to this guy kicking our ass a long time.

  3. Taking the hits he does, he won't be around for a long time. If he does somehow remain a player in years to come, he will end up like Chandler....start a game but not be able to finish.

The thing that really sucks about Vick is his Fantasy Points aren't what they should be. I bet Fantasy owners love it when he gets yanked for the back up to do Mop up duty... I mean, he probably could have gotten Fantasy Owners another 12-15 points Sunday.... :D

For Vick, the Chargers parted with the #5 overall, a mid round pick, a second round pick for the next draft, and their kick returner.

Turned out to be a good draft for both sides.

We would have had to give up much more than that, we were at 11 instead of 5.

Basically, we would have given up Morgan (#11) Julius Peppers ( next years first round pick), Kris Jenkins (2nd round pick), Donald Hayes (trade), and Weinke (fourth round pick). (the picks, not the players, go to San Diego)

We'd have nothing on D, and Vick would be 1 on 11 in this O.

I think we both know who laughed at you. :D That arrogant little bastard had to really change his tone after saying Vick would never be worth the #1 overall.

I dunno. Depends though. Are we talking about great QBs, or mobile versus immobile?

For the record, Unitas would buy time. Had he been in this era, he'd be very much like Favre. Namath would probably have been a lot more like Young, and was in college. Knee injuries helped make them immobile, certainly. I'll take a guy who looks to get rid of the ball to a receiver first, because I trust any OC's best wishes and WR's speed over anybody's legs. Vick would be relatively disrespected as a QB if he weren't such a good pocket QB right now.

If it's about trading up and getting "the right one", i.e. Leftwich, I'd agree that he's the best out there. Palmer is creeping up slowly, but they're very much similar. Interestingly enough Palmer's more athletic.

I think it's gotta start with which one's better as a QB to you, which one has the mental attitude, which one has the intangibles. I split those right down the middle between Leftwich and Palmer, so then the next thing is health concern and ability to start a career/handle adversity. That's where I put Leftwich ahead, despite his health.

    Good point.

Collin was fairly bitchy to everyone who suggested he should go #1 overall, me included.

I from the "new school"... I don't think you can take great players like Johnny U and assume they would be great today. Not just football but all sports.

I'm guessing here, but I'd say the average footspeed for the total defense has improved. Athletes are simply quicker and faster than they were back in the day.

I was not so sure Vick would blossom this quickly if at all. He still runs a lot and that adds to his greatness. He rolls out - a lot. I think, if he stays healthy he will be the QB every team dreams about.
