How much did that set you back?

Depends on what you get. With DirectTV you can get a 2 tuner TiVo unit with 80 hours of recording time for under $100.

Now if you want to go to HD dual tuner Tivo with 250 hours recording (30 pure HD hours) that retails for just under $1000 (can be had for $750 on the net) and then you can call DTV and get them to knock another $350 to $450 off your bill if you are nice.

I have been TiVo since 2000. Every room in our house has one. It has been a blessing with small children around. We can attend to thier needs at night, get them off to bed and then have our adult TV time uninteruptted. Also good for the kids. We have all the shows I like them to watch recorded. My 3 year old has no idea what TV in realtime is about..

You are confusing me now... Assuming you were planning on watching both shows anyways and if they weren't on at the same time, you could watch them both in 2 hours without a dvr. If you did have a dvr you could watch them both in less than an hour and a half. Are you sure you're a math major? ;)

But if ABC doesn't schedule both shows at the same time, then I won't have to record one to watch later. Which is the whole point of my thread.

And yes, as a math major, I can tell you that 1 is still less than 2.

ABC doesn't care. They have you hooked. You have to watch Lost to see what happens. CSI is different every week.

That's why you need Tivo, or a good torrent client and site.

Don't let the networks dictate when you watch their shows.

I don't care about that. If I must watch 2 hours of shows on Thursdays, I'm OK with that. I just don't want to watch those shows at other times.

I have a Tivo with 80 hours of capacity that I have had since 2002. It is great but it can not record two shows at once. I can watch a show while it records another one but then I have watch commercials.

But, if you had a TIVO or downloaded the programs, you wouldn't have to watch commercials?

And you could watch those two hours of shows in an hour and a half.

The only thing I watch on TV as it airs is sports. I suggest you get in on this, because likely in ten years they'll have us all watching commercials again :(
