Seahawks sign tackle to four-year deal

    January 24, 2003
    KIRKLAND, Wash. (AP) --
The Seattle Seahawks signed tackle Chris Terry to a five-year contract Friday worth up to $19 million.

The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus, and a $1 million roster bonus if he's on the team in March 2004.

The Seahawks claimed Terry off waivers Nov. 21, after the Carolina Panthers released him following his arrest for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor charge of assaulting his wife.

The charge was resolved through a deferred prosecution program that required Terry, who started 10 games for the Panthers last season, to take anger management classes.

Terry was inactive for his first game in Seattle, then started the final five at right tackle. He immediately bolstered an injury-battered line as the Seahawks averaged an NFL-best 464.2 total yards per game.

"Chris has proven to be an outstanding football player who helped bring consistency and stability to our offense last season,'' Seahawks vice president of football operations Ted Thompson said.

Terry was a second-round draft choice in 1999 by Carolina, where he started 57 games, missing just one career start in 2001. He was the first rookie to start all 16 games for the Panthers.

yeah, I'm not too thrilled with Fox on this move. Terry still had trade value.

Terry had zero trade value, he would have been a FA and the trading deadline had already passed when he was cut.

might not have had trade value but last we checked we need a RT and a LG. He could have done either.
