Panthers Fine Terry for No Show

    By JENNA FRYER

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers fined offensive lineman Chris Terry an undisclosed amount Thursday for missing practice.

Terry, Carolina's starting right tackle, missed practice Wednesday and the Panthers spent several hours trying to locate him. Late in the afternoon, they learned he was out of town dealing with a legal matter.

Panthers coach John Fox said Terry had apparently informed team officials about three weeks ago that he would miss a practice, but did not follow up after that. So when he was absent Wednesday, no one remembered Terry had given previous notice.

``It was a miscommunication, Chris had thought I had been contacted and I wasn't,'' Fox said. ``It's something that can't be tolerated and won't be tolerated. Not hearing from him, I was very worried about his well being.

``Our guys know they need to call somebody here, particularly me, and he didn't. Now he's paying the price.''

Terry will still start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

He had been excused from practice before to deal with court proceedings over charges of assaulting his wife during an altercation at their home in July and has a hearing scheduled next week on the issue.

He has denied hitting his wife, but a protective order keeps him away from their home, school and day-care centers attended by their children. It also prohibits Terry from possessing or buying a handgun.

Terry, a second-round pick out of Georgia in 1999, has started all but one game in his three seasons with the Panthers.

I was wondering if there was going to be any fallout on this. Another test of Mr. Fox's resolve and philosophy on discipline. So far, so good, IMO... :xyzthumbs

Then if they knew he was going to miss practice, why the fine?
Hell it looks like its the staff`s fault for not writing it down when they were informed.

I think Fox's position was that Terry was supposed to notify him personally that he'd have to miss practice, or at least to ask for permission. I've noticed that NFL head coaches are kinda touchy about that kind of stuff.
