I agree. There is absolutely zero reason that the Heels should not be a top 15 program. We were almost there too.

That is the loosest use of the word "almost" I have ever seen.

Bunting. You were on a warpath accusing anyone who defended him as having their head in the sand and willing to accept mediocrity. I'lll go bump it.

Now that TN lost to Ky Peterson will like be gone. Lutz's name came up again last night. :woot:

    ATLANTA — Granted, it wasn't a 61-point nightmare.

But if last night's 76-62 loss to Kentucky was indeed Tennessee Coach Buzz Peterson's farewell, it won't be overflowing with scrapbook memories.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats ripped through the Vols early and then slumbered to the finish, all the while moving a step closer to their 11th SEC Tournament championship in the last 14 years. They face LSU today at 2:15 in the semifinals at the Georgia Dome.

For Peterson, the next 48 hours will probably feel more like 48 days. Tennessee Athletics Director Mike Hamilton is expected to meet with Peterson on Monday and could announce a decision on Peterson's fate later that day.

For the second straight night, Hamilton made a quick getaway from the interview area and refused to answer any questions.

''I'm not talking about anything,'' said Hamilton, who threw up his hand and kept walking.

Peterson also declined to speculate on whether last night was his final game at Tennessee, but said he was proud of his team.

''I thought our guys showed a lot of character, but it's disappointing to lose the game,'' Peterson said. ''I'm not happy. I'm upset with the whole season, especially this ballgame. It's unacceptable, and that's where we have to improve and get better.''

The Vols (14-17) lost for the eighth straight time to the Wildcats, who led by as many as 22 points in the first half.

The Kentucky players said a near-altercation in the tunnel before the game only stoked their fire. The Wildcats erupted for 20 points in the first six minutes, and the game was basically over.

''One of the Tennessee players shouted, 'Who is Kentucky?' '' Kentucky forward Bobby Perry said. ''We took that personally. We deserve their respect.''

The Wildcats (24-4) missed 12 of their first 18 shots to open the second half, and the Vols were able to pull within 57-48 at the 14:30 mark. C.J. Watson, who scored a career-high 26 points, hit a pair of 3-pointers and Chris Lofton hit one to trigger the Tennessee spurt.

But nine points was as close as Tennessee would get.

''They set the tone in the first five minutes, and we never could make that up,'' Watson said. ''We had our chances, but missed some open shots.''

0-3 in March doesn't look to good on the ol' resume.
