    Tim Tebow – 6'3 236 1st round, 25th overall
Ability: Tim Tebow has been one of the most frustrating quarterback prospects to evaluate. Simply put, he's ugly. His throwing motion was long and jerky, his passes weren't beautiful spirals, and his footwork was far from ideal. Yet those criticisms have more to do with aesthetics than actual performance. Ultimately it doesn't matter if a pass is pretty or not as long as it has adequate velocity and accuracy, both of which Tebow demonstrated at the college level. Urban Meyer's spread offense obviously gave Tim various advantages in spacing out the defense and creating room for easy completions, but it is still notable that Tebow completed at least 64% of his passes in each of his four seasons. That rate will drop significantly at the professional level, but still demonstrates competency. Tim also evidenced the ability to read defenses and avoid throwing into coverage, but undoubtedly benefited in that respect from playing out of the shotgun, and will have to adjust to the challenge of making those same reads while backpeddling into his drop. Tebow made a concerted effort to streamline his elongated delivery, which almost resembled a pitcher's motion than a quarterback's, and the early returns looked encouraging. Changing a passer's mechanics is always dicey, however, and it remains to be seen how that might affect his accuracy.

Situation: With Kyle Orton coming off of a career season and Brady Quinn theoretically being a very capable backup, Tebow will face no pressure to contribute as a rookie, but will also have little opportunity to do so. The Broncos do have an excellent young offensive line along with a franchise running back, but it will be interesting to see how things play out at receiver in the absence of Brandon Marshall. First round pick Demaryius Thomas is very raw, and the other options don't possess an abundance of experience. Tebow will also perform best if the offensive scheme is tailored to his strengths and weaknesses, similar to what the Titans did with Vice Young. Josh McDaniels' history as an innovative offensive mind makes that fairly likely.

Present: As noted, Tebow will have very little opportunity to contribute during his rookie season. It's possible that McDaniels will seek to get him playing time, or to use him in specialized packages around the goal line, but that will not be nearly enough to accumulate sufficient statistics to warrant fantasy consideration. It's actually fortunate that Tebow won't be seeing much of the field, because he does have a tremendous amount of development to undergo before he is ready to perform as a professional.

Future: NFL history is littered with quarterbacks who could not make the transition despite tremendously successful college careers, but I actually believe that Tim Tebow will ultimately become league average at the position. His rushing prowess probably won't ever be the same kind of threat that it was at Florida, but he has the raw tools both physical and mentally as a passer to be a long-term starter for the Broncos. There will be growing pains along the way, but Vince Young would not a bad comparison if Young had substantially more maturity and a better work ethic.
