    The team has another year so I wasn't sure if K would stick around. Did the coach sign on to the whole three year committment thing or was that just the players?

    Oh I dunno, the radio guy this morning said something we lost in a couple of years ago was going on next year and this team would be together for that. He may have been full of crap.

    Last year we participated in the "American" championship tourneyment I thought, and the next year is the world tourneyment. But yeah, they play every summer in something.

    I believe if we win the next tournament we won't have to qualify for the Olympics in 2011 like we did this past year. I didn't catch all the details though.

    I know Howard, Chris Paul and Melo all said they wanted to come back for the 2012 team. I could understand if James passed (played in the past two Olympics) but I think it would be good for USA Basketball for him to commit early.

    The USOC made some sort of medal of appreciation to give to the coaches. It's not anything official though, more of a thank you and a souvineer than anything else.

    The next main tournament is the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Turkey. The winner will automatically qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London along with the host nation of Great Britain. The remaining teams will have to qualify for the Olympics through FIBA's Zone Tournaments (Americas, Africa, Asia, Europe, Oceania) in 2011.

    Qualification is as follows:

    Americas: Champion & Runner-Up

    Africa: Champion

    Asia: Champion

    Europe: Champion & Runner-Up

    Oceania: Champion


    Should a team not qualify through the zone tournaments, the three remaining berths for the Olympics is up for grabs in the FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament which is held a few weeks prior to the Olympics. Each zone is allocated the following berths (Zone Tournament finish in parenthesis):

    Americas: 3 (3rd-5th)
    Africa: 2 (2nd-3rd)
    Asia: 2 (2nd-3rd)
    Europe: 4 (4th-7th)
    Oceania: 1 (2nd)

    The top 3 teams in the tournament will qualify for the Olympics.

    So the current USA team will be together for the FIBA games?
