I dropped 5 lbs when I had my colonoscopy due to the medicine the doctor gave me to "flush". So for those who say I'm full of shit I'm not, I weighed before and after. :buck:

core strength = abdominals and low back. core strengthening helps support your spine, thus minimizing the potential for things like pinched nerves, sciatica. not to mention the side effect of a narrower waist line. however, too much muscle build up in the abdomen can lead to a bulky appearance.

google some articles on core strength training or ask some of the attendants at the gym. throw in a set or two, with some stretching, before you leave the gym each day.

I told someone that I routinely got my pulse up to 140-142 when I work out. He said I should be getting a higher pulse rate. I'm working out on thread mill at 4-4.5 mph and incline between 5-8. My resting pulse is 60-65. Short of running which I am not ready to try again what should I do?

    50. There is some chart on the wall at the fitness place but the damned thing is confusing. From what I can figure they want you between ~70% of max and max to burn calories. Something like 220 minus age (50) so 170 times 0.7 = 119. I think that's the 70% so if I am above that number and not dying I should be burning calories?

After 5 days at the beach I weighed in at 180 today. It took some disclipine being away from home.

I get mine up around 165-172 because that is where is would get when I was distance running in warm weather. It takes a lot of effort to get it that high on an eliptical.

140 seems reasonable for you if you are just getting into a workout routine.
