This has always interested me. The stargazer in me leans toward the "nova or supernova" theory. If the magi were led by the star or astronomical event, it would seem to more closely fit what we know due to the fact that the event itself would be of a longer duration. Although there is evidence to suggest that there was a planetary allignment roughly during that time, it would have lasted for just a few days at the most.

Personally, I don't think there is such a thing as destiny. I really think everything boils down to a combination of choices -- ours and those of others.

I could be wrong but I'm don't think that all things have been prophesied. I do believe that God knows all things (omniscience) and knows the choices we'll make before we make them - but the choice is still ours.

Good catch. I hadn't considered the time factor when I weighed the options. I agree -- an alignment of planets isn't going to last for months.

How long do you figure it would take to walk from Iran to Israel?

Isnt Iran east of Israel? If they were following a star to the east wouldnt they be going in the wrong direction.

Whats with all the baby killing, the Pharoh and Herod.

I'm not understanding if they had a light guiding them the entire time or just for part of the time.
