Every year, someone complains LOUDLY about our schedule. Every eyar, we play a great RPI schedule.

    Like this year...

49ers Add National Champion Syracuse; Complete Non-Conference Slate
Charlotte's 2003-04 Schedule Includes 9 NCAA Tourney Games; 2 Final Four
    Foes

Charlotte, N.C. -- The Charlotte 49ers have added a game at National
Champion Syracuse to highlight their non-conference schedule and add to
their already difficult road slate. Although conference dates still have to
be added, the 49ers roster of opponents is now complete and includes nine
games against 2003 NCAA Tournament teams and two against 2003 Final Four
    participants.
"Once again we have a very difficult schedule," said 49ers head
coach Bobby Lutz. "The road games are very demanding. Going to play Syracuse
will be a good early test for our team to see where we rank, nationally.
Southern Illinois is a consistent NCAA Tournament team and most people don't
realize how difficult a game that is and then you have Alabama at Alabama.
If anything our road schedule is too tough. It will prepare us for
Conference USA and that's what we look for (in a non-conference schedule)."
The 49ers will play at Syracuse, Wed., Nov. 26, kicking off a string
of four straight road games over 11 days.
The non-conference schedule begins with consecutive home dates with
George Washington (Fri., Nov. 21) and North Carolina A&T (Mon., Nov. 24).
The trecherous four-game road swing begins at Syracuse and travels
through UNC Asheville (Nov. 30), Alabama (Dec. 3) and Old Dominion (Dec. 6).

The 25th annual Battle for the Hornet's Nest will pit the 49ers and
Davidson at Halton Arena, Thursday, Dec. 11. Charlotte leads the Hornet's
Nest series with Davidson, 16-8, and the overall series, 22-9, although
Davidson won last year's matchup. Two days later, Dec. 13, Charlotte hosts
the Mountaineers in a rematch of last year's setback at Appalachian State.

"We have a great opening game with George Washington at home and
Davidson and Appalachian are two local teams that beat us last year," Lutz
said. "Our home schedule is very good and will be even better with the
Conference USA schedule. Our conference home schedule is very tough."
Following a break for final exams, the 49ers travel to Rhode Island
(Dec. 23), before returning home to host Delaware State, Tuesday, Dec. 30.
The non-conference schedule will conclude at Southern Illinois (Jan. 2).

Hopefully there will be a respectable TV alternative for the Syracuse game.......WAXN won't cut for me personally on Thanksgiving eve (& a road trip to NY for the holiday is out of the question)...........other than that, it is nice to see them on the schedule.

"Our home schedule is very good and will be even better with the
    Conference USA schedule. "

The CUSA part is the only redeeming portion of the home schedule.

    I knew was coming but

    11/21 - vs. GW
    11/24 - vs. NC A&T
    12/11 - vs. Davidson
    12/13 - vs. Tweetsie
    12/30 - vs. Delaware St.

    UUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH..

I don't think I'll have anyone beating my door for extra non-conference game tix.

Are they coming here next year?

Our road schedule, conference and non-conference, is brutal. We will be lucky, very lucky, to win half of them.

Our Home Conference schedule is also tough.

Our Home non-conference schedule is not very impressive. If we don't win most of those, it could be a long frustrating season

I'd love to be wrong...........but something tells me that we'd be promoting it right now if they were coming to Halton next season......my "hopefully wrong" guess is this will be a one time deal.

I guess its me.........while I can appreciate the difficulty it takes to even get a Syracuse on the schedule, I guess I'm just a little disappointed that there is NO ONE attractive on the schedule until January, 2004.

Non conference (last season) with Sagarin ratings

    LBS - 299
    Temple - 79
    Miami - 110
    S. Ill - 51
    Colorado - 39
    Loyola - 130
    Lafayette - 68

Non conference (THIS season) with last year's Sagarin ratings

    GW - 141
    A&T - 327
    Davidson - 137
    App - 148
    Delaware St - 256

maybe we were just spoiled last season.

I'm happy that we're playing 'Cuse, and I think it's a winnable game for us. The schedule isn't bad - we need some wins early on, and our CUSA slate is plenty tough, playing Cincy and SLU twice.

Real, would I take this game AT Syracuse to mean the ESPN doubleheader is a no-go? We can't have it both ways guys, playing a quality name program or a so-so major conference team in Halton.
