What is your take from a religious point of view of surrogates or artificial insemination (sp?) ?

    Moses was adopted.

Only moral ambiguity I can possibly come up with is a woman who basically breeds for profit. But the Bible doesn't address that that I am aware of.

Those quintuplets are nuts. And the surrogate refused payment b/c of the expenses in volved in caring for 5.

I was looking for a reference also. Someone said that the Catholics are sternly against this.

I know I would rather a woman sell her baby than abort it.

Catholic doctrine is that anything that either encourages or prevents fertility is verboten.

Honestly, I'm not sure what position I take on the issue. I haven't really seen anything concrete in the Bible against surrogate parenthood, but I'm still not comfortable with the idea. Being married to a lady who's faced fertility issues since she was 23, it's something I have given some thought over the years. At one point, my sister even offered to be a surrogate mother, although I'm quite sure she's rescinded that offer by now.

I can't really explain why I'm uncomfortable with surrogate parenthood. Maybe in my mind, the creation of a child is an intimate thing shared between a man and a woman and God -- a sacred partnership -- and bringing a fourth party into the mix just seems off. I dunno...

one of God's first commands (before the fall) was to be fruitful and multiply. and i can't find anyplace where He changed his mind on the subject, or that He put any limitations on how you can get pregnant. so i can't see anything wrong with artificial insemination. as far as surrogates go, there isn't anything against it. sly already spoke about Moses and that covers adoption. in the book of proverbs it says that chidren are a blessing from the Lord, so I'm not sure I see anything wrong with either.
