On today's Panther page, we will be talking to McKinnie apparently. No boo, that's not the suprising news. ;) I'm sure we will also talk to Buchanon, and I hope we also talk to the other top DTs, particuarly Henderson and Bryant, as they both also project well to DE. I'm also for bringing in the backs. We need to keep our options open in case of a trade down.

No the suprising news comes in the notes. One, our old LT Brokenmeyer got released by the Bears. WTF? I know they are tight. It sounds like they still want to sign him long term, but I would have tried to keep him under contract.

Philly is going to let Trotter go. Idiots. Keep the tag on him, he'll negotiate come June. Or trade him, if you must. But this is just stupid.

Farrior got a 3 year deal to go to Pittsburg. It sounded like Holmes was going back there, but his price might have been too high still. Holmes ended up going to Cleveland for about 3 million a year. It will be interesting to see how much Farrior got, it was only a 3 year deal. He may be kicking himself for turning down the Jets 5 year, 15 million dollar deal they offered him.

And Kevin Hardy is STILL out there. I got to wonder what's up with him.

IMO right now if I was going DT I'd probably go Bryant right now. I don't know why. Just seems to be the most Sapp-able.

Brockermeyer? Don't get that myself. He's an able pass protector. He's not at the level of a Steussie, though he had a great 1999. I don't think of him as good of a run blocker though. He probably isn't worth keeping at the amount he'd have been kept for but you can extend that contract really easy.

I don't get Pttsburgh. They didn't have to spend that money. A 3rd or 4th at ILB would have hooked them up. Do they not have Porter locked up yet? Is that why the FA concern for ILB?

Porter's locked up. It's a good group, but Farrior has struggled in the 3-4 before.

  4. Pittsburgh let Holmes go for a few reasons. Farrior is younger, supposedly more athletic and versatile. They didn't have to make any roster moves to fit him in - and felt he'd be quicker to come up to speed than a rookie. Fiala doesn't overly impress me, either.

From my friends in Pittsburgh, although Earl would bring the wood - he'd be a liability in coverage, and didn't play "hurt" much. Brent Alexander jumped on him after Earl caused fumble against the Ravens, and basically ended his season. Earl was good at stopping the run - but also wasn't one of brighter lights in the Pittsburgh D.

I think the Steelers will look DB (S) first round, and maybe put some $ towards the offense too. Porter was an RFA - the Steelers tendered him the mid-level offer, and someone would have to give up a #1 for him. He's worth it.

    One note on Trotter...

I was in Philly over the weekend and I listened to talk radio a little. The fans are just going nuts, but there were a few defenders of Reid. Basically, the Reid supporters said what one of the ESPN or CNNSI (sorry, can't remember which one) talking heads said today - if it's either Reid or Trotter, we choose Reid. Still a vocal bunch of detractors though. It's a tough city.

Trotter ain't Ray Lewis. Period. And if someone wants to pay him 6 million - God Bless them. Sure he may come back to haunt Philly if he signs with another playoff contender, but teams are starting to shy away from these huge deals a bit and I'd be shocked to see some team drop the $$$$ that Trotter was wanting before June. I'd say Philly screwed him pretty good.

I know, I was a Farrior/Sharper fan (oddly enough only after they graduated) and I know Farrior isn't a 3-4 linebacker in any respect.
