Nebraska makes no sense to me at all. Why would the Big 10 want them ? They have a great football tradition but it's in a state with a very small population and no significant tv markets.

Nebraska to the Big Ten looks to be a foregone conclusion. Tom Osbourne just made his recommendation to the NU board of regency to move to the Big Ten. KU, KS and Iowa State are soiling themselves as we speak.

    3 for the Big 12

Wow, sad day for the Big 12. Money over common sense.

If I was king for a day, this would be my breakdown of conferences...

    PAC 16:

    Washington
    Wash. St.
    Oregon
    Oregon St.
    Cal
    Stanford
    UCLA
    USC
    Arizona
    Arizona St.
    Texas
    TT
    T A&M
    Oklahoma
    Ok. St
    Colorado

    Midwest Hybrid Conf.

    Kansas
    Kansas St.
    Missouri
    Iowa
    Iowa St.
    Minnesota
    Colorado St.
    Marquette
    Baylor
    Memphis

    Big 10-Plus

    Nebraska
    Wisconsin
    Northwestern
    Illinois
    Michigan
    Michigan St.
    Purdue
    Indiana
    Northwestern
    Penn State
    Ohio State
    Rutgers
    Notre Dame
    Pitt

    ACC

    FSU
    Miami
    South Florida
    GT
    Clemson
    State
    Carolina
    Wake
    Duke
    VT
    UVA
    West Virginia
    Maryland
    Syracuse
    Connecticut
    Georgetown

    Big East/Atlantic 10 Hybrid Conf.

    Louisville
    Cincinatti
    Charlotte
    East Carolina
    Richmond
    Temple
    Xavier
    Villanova
    St. Johns
    Rhode Island
    Boston College
    Providence
    Seton Hall

The PAC 16, SEC and Big 10 Plus get 2 BCS berths each. ACC and Midwest Hybrid get 1 BCS berth each. A 9th BCS bid could serve as a wild card bid to any other team (i.e. Boise St.)

You would play a nine team playoff over a 3.5 week period to determine a National Champ. Everyone else in Div 1-A will play for a chance in post season bowls.

Genius idea NCAA Football. Travel expenses are so goddamn high already, teams are going to start playing via GoToMeeting.

From ESPNInsider. Texas to the Pac-10 might not happen

UPDATE: A piece by one Pauly Balst, whose name shows up on a number of blogs, at KentSterling.com (Sterling is a former program director at two Indianapolis radio stations) also reports that College Station sources say that Texas and Texas A&M could very well join the Big Ten. This would be the second phase of the conference's expansion, with Notre Dame and either Rutgers or Syracuse then coming aboard to bring the conference to 16.

In the comments section, Sterling adds that he hears that Indiana alum Mark Cuban is involved in discussions. Could things get any weirder?

    ---

UPDATE: Kansas City TV station KCTV5 reports: "High-level sources in multiple conferences have told KCTV5 that Texas and Texas A&M are looking to move to the Big Ten Conference and have petitioned for membership." This would seem to jibe with the item from below, and the timetable seems possible given that officials from the two schools met with each other Thursday morning.

However, Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com, who jumpstarted this last week of speculation with his original report on the Pac-16's interest in expanding to 16, tweeted this in response: "There's a Kansas City TV report saying Texas and A&M to the Big Ten. That would be news to those schools."

Whose sources are more in the know? Chances are we may find out in the next 24 hours.

    ---

We're not sure if there is an ounce of truth in this, but we thought it worth passing along. According to a poster on a Northwestern message board who claims to have a friend who works in the Big Ten office, the league has offered (or invited to apply for membership, as the case may be) Texas, Texas A&M, Notre Dame and Missouri in its efforts to expand to 16 -- with the Missouri offer contingent on Texas and/or Notre Dame joining.

Now, before we all dismiss this out of hand, know that a previous post by this same person -- which included some details that we have seen reported elsewhere -- supposedly angered commissioner Jim Delany, which would suggest that the source very well could be legitimate. (This assumes, of course, that the report of Delany's getting upset is true.)

Knowledge of this plan could very well be why Missouri AD Mike Alden has been quiet recently. The question is whether Texas or Notre Dame will play ball. Their answers almost seem to hinge on the other's decision -- neither one would have incentive to join without the other on board, but if the other isn't on board then why join? (The Big Ten's rumored plan to plunder -- or threaten to plunder -- the Big East in order to land the Irish appears to be dead.)

Chip Brown of OrangeBloods.com has been right about pretty much everything since he first broke the Pac-10's plans last week, and he has said that Texas is not particularly excited about being the southern boundary of the Big Ten. But a conference with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska and Notre Dame might be extremely appealing to the Longhorns -- or it could send them scurrying to the less competitive Pac-10.

All the reports about Thursday's meeting between Texas and Texas A&M officials have centered on saving the Big 12, moving to the Pac-10 or potentially considering the SEC. Could it be that the Big Ten is still on the table?

If Texas goes to Big Ten then Utah goes to Pac-Ten making 12. Pac-10 will not take on other Big12 teams without Texas coming in. So no Texas/Texas Tech, then no Oklahoma and Ok St

So for sure we've got Colorado to the Pac-10, Boise State to the Mountain West and Nebraska to the Big 10 now. I guess Texas is the next big decision everyone will wait on.

Looking at this from another angle, it would seem that now would be a pretty good time for an App State to make a jump to the bowl division wouldn't it?

What about the possibility of UNC and perhaps Va Tech jumping to the SEC ?
