They just had a segment on the Ok City/New Orleans Hornets (remember them?). She intimated that the Hornets have now played opening day games in three cities, and showed the scores of each opening game. They won their opener in NO and OC, but as any true Hornet fan remembers, we lost our opener by 40 to the Cavs. She said that the Hornets hope their season go like their first in NO rather than the first in Charlotte because they "won a meager 20 games that year." Last I checked, we had an expansion team in Charlotte in 1988. We had a selection of players the best of which included a coked up Robert Reid and a 9th best player from Detroit, Kelly Tripucka. I seem to remember the Hornets being a pretty damn good team when we sent them to NO, complete with two all-stars plus a future all-star. I'm not trying to send a shot to NO, but at the same time, they shouldn't be comparing the Hornets first season in Charlotte to the perennial playoff team that arrived in NO that first year. Perhaps I'm too sensitive, but still, bullshit to say our 20 wins were meager. Miami won 15 that same year, and neither of us were granted a top pick. If I remember correctly we split the 8/9 pick in their first draft. I noticed she didn't say that we gave our team a parade after their first year, nor that our owner stated had we won 20 games our first year that Harter should be coach of the year. No one expected us to win 20 games, the Bobcats didn't win 20 games, yet we're being compared to a NO playoff team. Fuck her and fuck ESPN. Do some research before you try and be poignant with stats next time.

Point taken, but damn, I followed this team since I was 12. I get a little worked up when they slam my team like that in an unbalanced comparison. There is no reason to be comparing the 1988 Charlotte Hornets to the 2002 New Orleans Hornets (or whenever the fuck they finally moved). They never mentioned that the Charlotte team was based off 9 free agents, coked up Robert Reid, 9th man Tripucka, and 9th man Kurt Rambis.

Our 20 wins also were a landmark, we got the 'rawest' deal of any modern day expansion team (along with the Heat), and we sent a team that hadn't lost more games than it had won in 8 years to NO. Hardly an above the board comparison. And yes, I'll be arguing this stuff till Collin and Magnus are both pushing up daiseys. I gave my heart and soul to this team, and I'll always remember our however many years we played in Charlotte. Just wait till I make my definative website ;)

having not seen it, did that anchor say "home openers" or just opener? I honestly don't know which 40 point loss you refer to (in the vain of home or season opener).

If she was talking about home openers, then its true--3 different cities--but you would know better than I the scores, etc of those games.

I don't like espn-news for that very reason--unqualified stiffs work there, just to say they work at "the worldwide leader" in the hopes that their espnews work will land them on Sports Center.

It was the first ever regluar season Hornets game. Kelly Tripuka scored the first bucket for the Hornets, but Craig Ehlo and Mark Price took over the game and we lost by 40.

Yeah, I know. I'm one of the three fans here in town, but thanks. I don't hold grudges against the NBA for what happened, I've accepted what happened, and I'll get over it one day. I love my Bobcats.

Mike: It was "home openers" in the piece but I'm not sure if that matters or not. The first Hornets game was in Charlotte against the Cavs. It was tied 22 all after the end of the first quarter and ended up as a 40 point loss for the Hornets. I have no idea if the 'opener' for NO was actually in NO nor do I care. It was marketed as 'home openers' in the piece, and yes, they do have some no talent douches working for espnews. Unfortunately it's also the only place to actually get highlights of games anymore.

Even more unfortunate is watching their blooper reel (they came online 9 years ago today). You realize all those no talent fucks that used to work at espnews now work at SportsCenter (Neil Everett, howwziiitt?, I'm looking at you) and you realize why SC sucks so hard nowadays.

ps--if you want to kick it old school, who can forget the hardon Dick Harter had for Stuart Grey?
