Give Smith some time, on the deep (deep) route down the sideline, he'll be the #1 guy, if he can get off the line cleanly.

What about Bright who they say is catching everything thrown his way?

I doubt Bright can be starter.

Big knocks on Bright, and Tolhurst, are their inability to contribute on Special Team b/c of their size. Both are fast enough to return, but that's smith's duty.

Man, I can't wait until camp. Can't wait to see how this all shakes out.

I think playoffs are possible. Guess I just like going against the grain and being optimistic when I have the opportunity. What's the point in getting sucked down by the cynicism of others and making the safe, intelligent and pessimistic prediction? The only thing I'm betting is my heart.

With that being said, I don't think we were as bad as our record would indicate. We had some critical injuries ... Moose, Walls, Timmy B., Navies, Morgan, Gilbert ... to name a few. In addition, we had a run of bad luck (fumbles and interceptions) and questionable coaching. In addition, several guys started folding their tents midway through the season. Meat is saying we have had a helluva good draft plus we picked up Smith, Montgomery, Fields and Jackson among others, which has really improved us. We should be much stronger in running the ball and stopping the run, which are critical to having much of a chance. To disagree with some others, I think we can make the playoffs with merely adequate CBs (if there’s a good pass rush and we can stop the run, which I think we will) and WRs (if the running game is strong enough, which I think Foster will provide). Course if they suck Toto poop, then that might be a problem.

With that being said, Weinke is the keys. Weinke has got to take a huge step forward for us to get to the playoffs ... this year.

I'm with you headcase. Who in the hell thought NE was the big gun last year, or Balt or etc ... To much depends on blind luck and desire.

If my memory serves me correctly, Bright is exactly the kind of lightning fast good hands receiver Henning likes to play. I think he will be there if he can run the good routes. We need the kind of receiver who can stretch the field and back those defenders up. Gives us a chance to turn Foster loose. Gain control of the game and then pound with the big backs. Riggins did it.

    I love being a homer. Don't cost a thing. I believe.

Smith is the scarest guy on the field IMO - if your a Panthers fan. That fumble total, does that include the couple of times he drop it and scooped it back up real quick, even though he got lucky it bounced right to him? And how many times did he fumble in the Pro Bowl? I'm sorry guys, but it would not hurt my feelings one bit to see SS leave the Panthers. Wasn't he's agent also crying for more money last year too?

Game 1, before the game started, I was asking all the Vike fans at the bar if the had heard of Steve Smith. (I was in NJ) When the Vikes kicked off, while the ball was in the air, I started yelling TD! It was beautiful. I turned around and said "You heard of him now?" But as the season wore on, I became less and less a fan of SS. He's got a lot to prove to me before I'm in his corner again.

And BTW, I think some of you Steve Smith fans are the same ones bitching about Foster's fumbling problem, and he hasn't even played a game or the Panthers yet. Steve had a LOT of touches since he got the ball practically on every possesion change, so he should have been working some of that out by late season. Just be sure and give Foster a whole season too.

and two could be attributed, fairly or unfairly, to the turf v/s Green Bay. He wasn't at full speed, there were a lot of comments to the tune of "he looked tentative and distracted." Easy to do on bad turf, esp considering Morgan that game.

I don't believe more than one (if one) was in an offensive situation.

    >> does that include the couple of times he drop it and scooped it back up real quick,

that's why there's a stat for fumbles and a stat for fumbles lost.

i freak out inside every time he touches the ball. i can't breathe. it's nerve wracking as hell. it can just go soooo right, or soooo wrong. it's literally worse that 3rd and 10 on the fourty with 25 seconds left and being down by two. it kinda makes me feel nauseous.

Actually, I remember reading that the two Green Bay fumbles were related to the drugs they gave him at half-time. I've watched that game 3 times this offseason and each time I wince watching the shot he took right before the end of the first half. They should have never numbled him and then put him back in the game. And of course, he is a rookie that made the pro bowl. Stop complaining, he deserves a contract renegotiation at some point (likely end of this season). Is he out #2 guy? I doubt it. But everytime we bring him in the Defense will have to detail two guys for coverage.
