If there are just two years left on his contract, we would need to trade him now in order to get something. Closer he gets to the end of the contract, more likely other teams will just wait to see what happens in free agency when they don't have to give anything up. He's 32, coming off a significant drop in productivity. He picked a bad year to have a bad year, as far as we're concerned. If he'd had a great year, we would get more interest for him. It's funny, but wasn't it two years before Julius' contract was up that he had that mysterious bad year? Wonder if agents suggest that.....nevermind.

Unless it's guaranteed then they can just add a year or two at a nicer rate and only guarantee a portion

If he wants out bad enough, he'll have to re-do his deal! According to him, the championship ring is 1st priority and not the money at this stage of his career. I don't think thats a problem.

That's true. Makes me hopeful something could be done, because I think we should move him while we can.

I think we'd settle for a draft pick thats based on his performance this season. Its starts off as a 4th and can become a 2nd if he reaches certain stats during the season. Similar to what Packers got for Brett Favre.

I'm glad we didn't get irrational and trade him while he still had value.

We might have to settle for player for player type trade.
Something like Steve to the Ravens for DE Paul Kruger or LB Tavares Gooden.
I'd rather have a draft pick but at least we would get a player that can help us right away.

That would be nice, but at this point I think you're just looking at trying to get a 5th or a 6th round pick.
