Maybe he is going to tie all books and stories together. Maybe all stories aren't fiction. All books and stories are non-fiction and the writers are just recording history without know what they are doing.. All book are alternate realitys held together by the dark tower. So everything we have read, seen in movies, or told around a camp fire are actually stories that have really happened somewhere... Just a thought....

I'm still working my way through The Wastelands. So far the experience has been rewarding.

wasn't this supposed to be his last novel? I thought he was retiring after this one?

edit: Apparently he's kinda sorta retired. I copied this from his webpage:

Q: Is it true that you have retired?

A: Not yet. I'm writing but I'm writing at a much slower pace than previously and I think that if I come up with something really, really good, I would be perfectly willing to publish it because that still feels like the final act of the creative process, publishing it so people can read it and you can get feedback and people can talk about it with each other and with you, the writer, but the force of my invention has slowed down a lot over the years and that's as it should be. I'm not a kid of 25 anymore and I'm not a young middle-aged man of 35 anymore-I'm 55 years old and I have grandchildren, two new puppies to house-train and I have a lot of things to do besides writing and that in and of itself is a wonderful thing but writing is still a big, important part of my life and of everyday.

I read the Gunslinger a few months ago and it didn't seem that good. Decent story but the writing style was really weak... of course, he wrote it when he was, like, 19, so...

It could have been that I read Don Quixote just before that one, maybe I'll give the second one a try.

I decided not to read the first 4 installments before starting this one. He gives a summary at the beginning, but it might be worth reading the others if you don't have a pornographic memory.
