I don't think a lot of the casual fans know that Palpatine = Emperor. They do look pretty different, I doubt I would have pieced it together on my own.

I've always wondered, can you tell the difference between the storm troopers?

I think so. At home, of course. I'll post some tonight.

If Yoda faced him why are they both still alive in part five?

Didn't say either of them die. Yoda gets his ass kicked and retreats to the planet Dagohbah. Don't you think if Yoda could kick the Emperor's ass he'd have come out of the swamp rather than spending 20 years there?

Yoda does not die in an effort to stop the Sith? Does not seem like he would just give up. I assumed it was something like "the good side of the force prevented him from killing Palpatine".

If Yoda does get his ass kicked what did he expect that Luke was going to do? Why bother training him?

Yoda never sent Luke to stop the Emperor he sent him to stop Vader. But Yoda went into hiding along with Obi Wan. The Jedi were considered enemies of the Empire. Early one this was a bad thing because they had Clone/Stormtroopers after them, Vader after them, and bounty hunters after them. Furthermore Yoda got his ass kicked, Mace Windu got his ass kicked, and nearly all other Jedi's were slaughtered.

Side Note... Lucas also recently admitted that Luke was actually the chosen one and more powerful than Vader.
