I loved the way they nailed the characters with the re-casting. The story was nothing special and did not really make sense. Warning spoilers below:

If the black hole had swallowed the Romulan start would it have not also swallowed Romulus? Why did old Spock create the black hole at all once Romulus was destroyed? If a black hole can destroy a star by being launched at the surface why do you have to drill to the center of a planet before you launch? Why did Nero not just go warn Romulus so that they would be prepared for their star to go supernova? What did Nero do for the 25 years between killing Kirk's dad and capturing old Spock? When the Kelvin crashed into the Romulan ship it appeared to damage it greatly, how did they get it repaired?

not necessarily depending on the planet's distance from the star, but then again, the whole process being untested its hard to say what would have happened.

The supernova wasn't just going to destroy Romulus, but the entire galaxy there.

Maybe it increased their chances of getting away from the black hole before being pulled in.

He was a crazy twisted man.

This is a legitimate question. No clue.

Well they had 25 years to do repairs on it.
