I hope you're right colin. we have a pretty deepline - for a 7th rounder to come in and get a spot would be awesome.

nope. Didn't realize either of those things (dude):imagestor
I remember seeing McClover listed around 250 whenever I've seen him listed. With meatpile recently adding that he looked "Morgan sized" and the highlights where he'll make contact and seem to struggle trying to take someone down you can see how I would assume that he's lacking size and strength for OUR D-line. Where is he listed 263?

I don't go to the panthers.com site much anymore since it tends to be homer'd up watered down fluff. I put more stock in the Buzzfans info and that along with a couple of earlier draft reviews is what i was going by. I guess it's possible that he's already started putting on some bulk . . . bully for him if that's the case :xyzthumbs

According to the link I read, he was 258 at the combine.

I think the nfldraft.rivals.com is the last place I had made note of his size and they have him at 247 . .. that is the lowest weight I have seen for him. Another draft site has him at 250, another at 255, etc etc. I would imagine that weight does fluctuate for lineman quite a bit more than for the smaller guys. I would love for him to be able to bulk up to 275 but then as an edge rusher isn’t he likely to lose some quicks and speed?
That’s what is so impressive about Mario Williams . .. For a guy his size he seems incredibly quick and has the speed to run even little guys down. The more footage I see of his the better I feel about the Texans taking him. IMO our D stands a better chance against Bush than our O stands against a D-line that would be an absolute nightmare for Jake & Co with the addition of Super Mario

Mario Williams was just a good, not great defensive lineman in college. I can't see him being much better in the NFL, and I think you're probably one of the only people who would rather face Bush than Williams. Mario doesn't play with enough strength for his size, and he doesn't play with enough aggressiveness for his speed. And that rivals weight for McClover is simply wrong. NFL teams recorded a weight of 262 for him at his pro day (along with a 4.63/40). He does not need to bulk up any more than that, although it would be helpful if he improved his upper body strength.

He's not unlike another guy I really wanted as a project, Wyche, who ended up being picked in the 7th also. He timed himself 4.71 electronically at combine, 4.63 at pro day, either of which is pretty damn fast for a DE and shows his decent first step. He lifted 19x at combine, which can certainly be improved upon, but at his height/weight, I don't know how much more you can pack on. A DE doesn't have to be the strongest guy in the world, and 260 isn't too small for a situational end. It's not that small for an every-down end, if he's strong enough, but we'll see if McClover can get there in a year or two. I'd like to keep Haye around, as well as McClover, which doesn't seem unreasonable. I don't know that we keep more than 4 DT on the roster, given the talent we have.
