NBA's Stackhouse charged with assault in Atlantic Beach

ATLANTIC BEACH, NC (AP) -- Washington Wizards guard Jerry Stackhouse was arrested Sunday and charged with assault on a female after an altercation at a rental property, police said.

Stackhouse, a native of Kinston, was renting a house near the North Carolina coast at the time of the alleged incident, according to a statement from Atlantic Beach Police Chief Scott Kilpatrick.

Stackhouse was told he and his guests had to leave the property around 2:30 p.m., but he apparently believed he had rented it until Monday, Kilpatrick said. He attempted to grab the lease from the woman, an employee of the property manager, and grabbed her instead, the chief said in the news release.

It's uncertain what arrangements were made to vacate the property, The Daily News of Jacksonville reported in Monday's edition.

The woman felt threatened and went to the magistrate's office to take out a warrant, police said. Stackhouse was contacted and went to the police department with an attorney.

Stackhouse was free on $2,000 bond, the newspaper reported.

Stackhouse was an All-American at North Carolina, leaving after his sophomore season to be the No. 3 pick in the 1995 NBA Draft by Philadelphia. He was traded to Detroit during the 1997-98 season, and was a two-time All-Star there before being traded to Washington before last season.

Stackhouse, who averaged 21.5 points last season, agreed to a two-year contract extension worth about $18 million with the Wizards last month.

It's "The Curse of LEs Boulez".

Maybe they should make leases shaped like a basketball. I'm pretty sure he could've grabbed it without missing it then. It just wouldn't have stayed in his hands long after that if there was anything resembling a hoop around.

why the hell is a multi millionaire in Atlantic beach anyway? I guess he's trying to be "real." Next time he ought to think about Wild Dunes or something where this wouldn't of happened and the security would of just showed up to kick him out if he was in violation of a lease.

LMAO, are you kidding me?? A warrant when he grabbed her arm, hand or whatever. It didn't say he hurt her in anyway. Can you say she is looking for a paycheck or what.
