Report: N.C. State hiring Sidney Lowe
    Ex-Pack player is Pistons assistant
    From staff reports

Sidney LoweN.C. State has named former Wolfpack point guard Sidney Lowe head basketball coach, the Raleigh News & Observer is reporting on its Web site.

Lowe is an assistant coach with the Detroit Pistons and former head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA. He played for N.C. State's 1983 NCAA championship team under coach Jim Valvano and does not have his bachelor's degree, but told the News & Observer that he is finishing up his degree work this month.

A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution is a requirement for the job.

Lowe is the only N.C. State alumnus and only African American coach known to have been contacted by N.C. State.

The duration of Fowler's search to replace Herb Sendek reached 34 days on Thursday, making it the longest search for an ACC men's basketball coach since at least 2001. It took Virginia 33 days last year to hire Dave Leitao after Pete Gillen resigned.

Texas' Rick Barnes, Memphis' John Calipari, ESPN analyst and former UCLA coach Steve Lavin and West Virginia coach John Beilein all were pursued but withdrew their interest. Herb Sendek, the previous coach, left April 1 for Arizona State.

A source said Fowler has become increasingly secretive in his search after last week's rejections from Lavin and Beilein, which caused embarrassment for N.C. State when they were made public. This has prevented information about possible candidates from being leaked to the media.

Others mentioned include Xavier coach Sean Miller and Bradley coach Jim Les, but sources could not verify they are candidates. Miller is a former N.C. State assistant.

Fuck off Brain. He said he's not interested. It doesn't say they offered the job and he declined. Same thing with Mike Brey. I thought a little more highly of you.

I'm still in that argument with all the Holes about how many times State was 'turned down'. It's bullshit.

If someone holds a press conference to say that they donot want the job at your school then they have turned you down. Whether you offered them the job or not is immaterial.

Oh and for a team that was looking for a "high profile name" coach that can compete with Duke and UNC to end up with and Assistant from Detroit that got his ass handed to him in his last head coaching role, that techniquelly doesn't even meet the job requirements as of yet, but hell there's no one else to hire... I'd say State still came out looking bad.
