Make sure you visit here to vote in the Sportsline fan poll. Carolina is still in the rear with the gear as one might expect. Wonder who we'll have to beat to get a little respect. Our first 2 games won't get us any respect but will a win versus the Vikings?

A 3-0 start is respectable, for sure. Particularly if our defense keeps points off the board, and we can dominate T.O.P. like we did vs. Baltimore.

No kidding, meat! I don't usually pay that much attention to T.O.P., but when I saw the stat from last week...EIGHT FREAKING MINUTES? Maybe it pays to have a couple of Social Security recipients running the offense after all! :p

People were bitching about it, but I was loving it. Polar opposite of last year's style, and since last year's style = 1-15, differnet is good.

I loved those sweeps we ran.

    Re: the sweeps

the good thing about the sweeps? For one, we scouted and noticed that Goings ran sweeps great and that's why he got a lot of carries in Minnesota.

But the bad thing is that it was so very much a field position thing. We wanted to just gain 2-4 more yards before we punted.
It just happened to bust up the middle a time or two for the first down.

I guess they wanted to go extra conservative but we can't beat many people with a third down run and give up on the drive mentality.

One interesting thing is that Miami only had three 3 and outs against Detroit.

    true true

They played a great game of field position, and ultimately, I think that kept them in the game. They we're backed up in their own end zone, drove out, punted, and eventually backed the Ravens up to their own end zone. The Panthers gave up a big play right away, but they still had 80 yards to go. It seems they have always lost this battle in the past, and T.O.P. goes hand in hand with the field position battle. It's hard to be losing in one and not the other.

Yea, they were conservative, but 3 of those third down conversions were called back on a penalty. Not bad if that's the worst of mistakes (and the bite Morgan had on the play-action) but without those, they could have added another 2 or 3 minutes to the possesion time.

I'm most impressed the Panthers held the Ravens to 10 rushing yards in the first half. Not bad against a team that the HC says is the best OL he's coached, ever.

Morgan bit but Grant had primary responsibility for that receiver. Grant froze a second on the play-action and his man got past him.

Run the ball, stop the run.

Yeah it was sweet. Pasq. was on ESPN radio last night talking about how the Ravens are a team that can stop the run. That's their deal. But how Lamar ran all over them, and had it been Foster - look out.

Not quite good press about the Panthers, but as close as I've heard since we beat Minnesota.
