I do know this, he snatched one away from Moss in that first game that looked as if Moss and he had exchanged uniforms. He has great hands. Put Moss in a state of shock.

    5 Ints, not bad.

    >>I donno--I was pretty disappointed in his rookie year--

Guess I'll look for clarification. IMO besides tackling I felt he did what he was asked and more, when dealing with the defense overall.

    >>But, then again, I don't know nearly as much about the game as you guys do.

Misconception - knowledge is just a matter of situation. Opinion is best served with knowledge, but it's more how honestly it's sold and how earnest that person is about it. No worries here, feel free to say your word. :D

    >>Just hope there is improvement this year.

All I'm hoping for is better tackling. Tell the truth, he is sometimes out of position against the run, and often tries to hit rather than wrap. Against the pass I feel he's as good as we have.

fundamental coaching can take that minor flaw and make a solid player in the NFL...

well he had that problem in college...I'd rather have someone have to whip him into the mindset that wrapping is idea #1 and trying to put on a hit is far down the list than have someone who's scared to put his hat in there.

Problem is too many people view Deon as the second, when that's not the case.

This is the key point regarding Grant. Usually he was in position to make the tackle, and quite honestly, normally he did. However, occasionally he did try to make the big hit, and on those plays forgot that he also needed to wrap up. In actuality, he was only run over a time or two and failed to wrap up a few other times, but because mistakes make a greater impression, that is what people remember of last year. Overall, his tackling was not bad, and it did improve as the season progressed. He just needs to remember he's not Ronnie Lott, and concentrate on wrapping up.

His only other serious problem was occasionally being out of position (usually against the run, as mVm said). But that is largely a result of inexperience. As he develops better play recognition and learns to trust his instincts, he should greatly improve in this area. Also, he was regarded as a corner by many teams when he entered the draft, so he has good coverage skills, and that should be a huge benefit with our current crop of CB's. And with a year on the field under his belt, I do expect him to become much more of a force this year.

That's me. I read every day, but unfortunately, don't have time to post as often as I'd like. It took me a while to find you all, but I finally made it.

Yeah--this is what I'm REALLY pumped about this year. From all I've read, it sounds like Fox has the energy and enthusiasm to pull our team out of the doldrums caused by last year's disaster. I'm anxious to see Del Rio in action, too.

I think a new coaching staff and a new attitude are going to help tremendously.

Thing that concerns me is that Grant seems to think, or has bought into the idea, that his biggest problem is strength. It's not. I'm all for him getting stronger, and he's taken that task in the offseason, but I never thought that was his problem, here or at TN. He has always been willing to hit. But it takes more than just throwing your body out there.

Hopefully Del Rio and Co. can work with them a little more, and emphasize wrapping up.
