Popovich explained what happened. There was a misunderstanding about timeout protocol between international rules vs. NBA rules.

Brown had already put in for the time-out and he tried to call it off during the dead ball. There was no intention by him to embarrass anyone. Brown had requested the timeout earlier at the scorers table, per Olympic rules. At the time Spain had cut the US lead to 5. He did not actually get the timeout until :23 left in the game, when the lead had increased to 11.

Larry Brown is a coaching God. How can anyone doubt him.
