Exacly my point....a definition of "The South" is varied. So if Arkansas can be included in "The South" for purposes of determining the South's financial well-being then can the Dakotas and Wisconsin be considered the North for the same purposes???

Read your history...the Fed limited overseas trade of goods farm goods via taxation and levies in order to limit the Southern farmers' access to the Atlantic trade market. Had the South had fair access to theAtlantic market, the Northern economy would have been forced to compete with Europe for trade goods from the South. Again...a large part of the reason for secession from the Union. 1860, after nfair taxation and tariff law had nearly crippled the Southern Economy, the Southern States had had enough. And..yes I refer to it as the War of Northern Aggression" because the Confederate States were formed by sovereign states who had the right to secede as they saw fit if they believed the Federal Government wasn't holding up their end of the agreement. The Union then began to use strong-arm tactics to try force the hand of the Southern States to break up the Confederacy. In fact, if you will read your history, such a seccession was discussed in The Federalist papers in the 1770's. A civil war is when 2 or more factions fight over control of a sovereignty. Not the case with our "Civil War". It was one faction using force to stop another faction from exercising it's legal sovereign rights. A "War of Northern Aggression", if you will.

Read the thread...my point here is that you won't find Southerners moving up North and then sitting around and bashing the North for the sake of bashing the North, or posting "Northern/Retarded" as a thread title to provoke a fight. I know my history, I know my heritage.....so learn your history before you try to correct me with your half-ass bullshit.

I am all for ethnic heritage, too, but everyone is a product of ALL their heritage.

No offense taken, and as I said before...Yin-Yang...there's good and bad on both sides. So if he wants to discuss....we can do it. But if he wants to make a jackass of himself looking for a fight, i.e.,(Southern/Retarded), I can go that way too.

As long as there's an unbiased way of dividing it up, and not some "we don't really count this or this" ideal

This is an excuse. The theory was poverty, not why. The South had every bit as much of an opportunity to modernize and industrialize, and instead the few that had all the money down here chose not to do so, instead choosing to keep a race enslaved for profit. Tariffs, taxes, yeah. The north countered harshly. That doesn't change why.

So what you're saying is, you're negating the ideal of the U.S. being sovereign of itself, to instead trump the sovereignty of a region that was not deemed sovereign at the time of its break, nor for years after?

It's not half-ass bullshit. If you weren't quite so sensitive about all this silly shit, you'd see annoying, arrogant, idiotic people for what they are (annoying, arrogant, idiotic) and not brand them with your own bias.
It's the heritage chosen. And that's iffy. You remember how Madonna's british all of a sudden?

I take great umbrage to that statement. I am perfectly capable of boiling water, opening the box and dumping in the macaroni, draining it after it's cooked, and stirring in the powdered cheese and requisite amounts of butter and milk. Oh yeah, and cubing and cooking the Spam and "folding" it in.
