    It's not that the Southern food we're talking about are not decent or edible, but some of these foods are treated like a major source of pride for Southerners. You don't hear Yankees talking about how "special" their mashed potatoes are. You've got things like "Maine Lobster", "New England Clam Chowder", and "Philly Cheese Steak" that are a source of pride because they're made with finer and/or rarer ingredients in a way that's not always easily duplicated. Not that a Philly cheese steak is so fine and so rare, but they apparently didn't even have the beef to come up with it in the south. Apparently, pork, coming from an animal that swims in and eats it's own shit, is the best we can do down here, and they're all proud of THAT.

    see now you are comparing apples and oranges. you are naming three helm foods of northern cuisine. no one is comparing mac and cheese to mmaine lobster. naming scrapple and cheese curds would have been more appropos

    Well, what is a truly elite food that comes out of the south? They even dumb down their shrimp with grits.
