One thing you have to understand is that Charlotte is probably the worst City to judge the South by. It sold it's culture out a long time ago. Musically it's probably one of the worst in the country for a city of it's size that I've been to.

    It's a bland corporate city.

There's not a big enough college presence in this city, and I think that partly accounts for the blandness. I really wish UNCC would throw themselves into the idea of an uptown campus.

But for the record, I don't mind the blandness because I'm a busy suburban parent, and my wife and I like to travel to more interesting cities without the kids. It's more the actual Southern culture at it's finest that sucks.

I'm a bit confused. You say you love the south, loath (sp?) the north, but can't stand the southern culture? Then what exactly DO you like about the south besides it's lack of snow storms???

I don't actually loathe the North. I just prefer living in the South and feel free to notice the good and bad in each. I live in the South because the cost of living and taxes are low (not to mention insurance) compared to what I was used to, the weather is fantastic, and although it would be nice to be a little closer to a major body of water, Charlotte has a great geographical location, with access to the Mountains and the water, and it's still not a bad drive up North if I have to go see my family. It's also a decent sized city with decent amenities and very clean and well landscaped. I find that people are pretty much the same wherever you go. I define "redneck" as anyone who's never ventured away from where they were born and aren't smart enough to care to check out other places, so by that definition there are as many rednecks in NY as there are down here.

Probably like most of the rest of the country. I believe the reaction will be, "Is hockey still considered a professional sport?"

UNCC would get lost in downtown just like Ga Tech does. A University really has no influence in a city that can survive without them. There would be no Clemson, Baton Rouge, Tusacaloosa, Charlottesvile, Auburn, Gainesville if it wasnt for a University being there.

You don’t like all of those johson & wales kids walking around downtown? They look out of place with all of the bankers.

I think more full time residents results in a more interesting city, especially young people, who unlike professionals, know about fashion and care about music. It would add flavor to have a buch of stupid kids running around Charlotte.
