Though I suspect App State will beat Western Carolina to secure the Southern Conference Chapionship, if they lose to WCU, then there is the possibility of a 3 or 4 way tie at the top with a conference record of 5-2. App State has only Western and Elon left (Elon's a gimmie) in conference games. Western has only App State left. Georgia Southern is through with conference play. Furman has Wofford and UT-Chat left, which they should win, but you never know the way our defense has played this year. Anyhow, assuming all things play out over the next two weeks for all four teams to end up with conference records of 5-2, how would it be sorted out? Here's the head-to-head situation amongst the four:

    App State
Lost to Furman and WCU, Beat Ga Southern

    Western Carolina
Lost to Ga Southern, Beat Furman and App State

    Georgia Southern
Lost to App State, Beat Furman and WCU

    Furman
Lost to WCU and Ga Southern, Beat App State

Again, assuming App State wins over WCU, then App State has the championship outright. But WCU has a significant number of experienced juniors and seniors on defense, if I recall correctly, which could translate into an upset. They held Wofford to 19 yards passing this past week.

That is only 30 yards under Wofford's average (48.9 ypg). App held them to 29 yards passing.

They won it in 98 and 04. But I agree, once was plenty.

While I agree that App should win and they probably have more to play for, if we win, we'll tear down your own goalposts...

You can't tear down the goalposts any more at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Since the Georgia Southern bus was damaged a few years ago, goal post through the window, they have installed the quick release type of goals and the security crew lowers them in about ten seconds or less. Not that I think there is much chance of the Cata-monkies winning this weekend anyway.

I agree that App will likely win. There's a part of me that's always pulled for the boys for Cullowhee, partially since I went to Junior College down the road at Brevard.

Getting back to the original question, though. In the unlikely scenario that WCU wins, what is the tie-breaker for the Championship?

The way I understood it, the 1st tiebreaker is head to head matchups. ASU and Furman would be eliminated at that point for the auto bid as WCU and GSU would have a 2-1 record against all the teams tied while ASU and Furman would have a 1-2 record. The 2nd tiebreaker would be head to head result between the remaining teams which would give the SoCon Automatic Bid to GSU.

I don't think WCU has enough wins to get in even if they win a part of the Socon title because one game got cancelled from the hurricane. I also don't see App losing to Elon, so all they have to do is beat WCU anyways.
