Yeah, that's why they were going for a major guy, but even then you're not guaranteed success. Come on down, Gregg Marshall.

I would say State was a premier program. 70's -80's up until Duke started winning. really, the day the unitard was unveiled is when things started going down hill. I think Amato shifted a lot of peoples interest towards football, and it seems as if lots of State fans were more concerned about football , than basketball for a while.
theres only so many players Duke and UNC can bring every year. State should be able to recruit talent. Wake and Maryland have done it. instead of going after the 1-2 year players, they may have to look for the 3-4 year players. they actually make a better "team" in the long run.

They had to start wearing regular shorts soon thereafter due to the 'bulge factor'.

See I think that's the biggest problem with the whole damned search. You've got a decent basketball evirnoment here, but every coach that gets called is gonna stop and say "If I take this team to the NCAA tourny 5 years in a row, that's still not gonna be enough."

ESPN radio flash says NCSU looking at Marshall and Wittenburg per the Charlotte Observer. of course if you read the Observer article, it says neither has been contacted. media is just as responsible as State for making this coaching search look like a joke
