What's up with UNC's recruit class for next year? I hear alot of talk about how great it is, but I know nothing about this sort fo thing, and figure the middle of a work day might be a good time to learn.

Well for starters nothing is assured because they've yet to play in actual college setting, but here's the rundown:

The top guy they're getting is Brandon Wright. He's probably the 2nd or 3rd overall player in the class. He's been compared to Kevin Garnett, but they say that about most players when they describe them as "long with good jumping ability". He needs to add some weight though. He's got a decent mid ranged jumper and is a solid blocking shots from the weak side. He's 6-10.

Next up is Wayne Ellington. He's also in the top 10 nationally and depending on which week either the top or 2nd best overall shooting guard. He's sorta Rashad McCants without the attitude problem. A straight up scorer from everywhere on the court. He's 6-4 and played high school ball with Gerald Henderson, the small forward going to Duke. Expect to hear way too many stories about these two being former teammates and are now college rivals.

Then there's Tywon Lawson. Top 10 player and the best PG in the draft. One analyst said he's one of the top 3 PGs to go into college in the last 5 years. Lightning quick with good court sense. He can also hit solid from 3 point range. He struggles a bit with his medium range game. He's 5-11.

Then there's Deon Thompson. A 6-9 Center and ranked the 3rd overall Center nationally, behind Greg Oden and Spencer Hawes who are just absolute freaks. 5 star guy who is in a VERY similar mold to Sean May... without the baby fat that May had as a frosh. Solid scorer, with a ton of post moves, but he'll have to improve his Defense.

Then there's 6-10 center/Power Forward Alex Stepheson. Who's sorta the opposite of Thompson. He's a Defensive and rebounding monster. He's ranked 13th among Centers, but expect that number to change considering the monster senior season he's had. He had a 3 game stretch in which he averaged 23 point and 28 rebounds per game. He's really hit the weight room as well.

Last but not least is 6-6 Small Forward William Graves. The lowest national ranking, but just like Stepheson his ranking could change due to his solid senior season. He's possibly established himself as the best HS senior in NC. He's averaging a little better than 30pts per game. His biggest problem is he seriously needs to lose some weight. In Roy Williams' offense the running will wear on this kid.

With the Final standings for the Big ten and ACC, that means Duke's young guys are gonna have to go up against Ohio State's monster class. That's gonna be a scary game, and UNC might want Duke to win that one since Ohio State is the only team I could see being ranked ahead of UNC in the preseason. People also forget that if everyone returns at UCONN that is suppose to return they have the #1 PG in the country, the #1 SF and an outstanding class as well with Adrien and Boone down low with Gay. Ellington and Gerald Henderson looked almost equal in the games I saw at Charlotte and on T.V., but Ellington must have performed a lot better in AAU and Summer Leagues.
