The new & improved Soldier Field is looking pretty good :) . . . They are keeping the colonades (?) intact on each side of the field and expanded into the open end of the stadium which had been blocked off by endzone seats since the Bears moved there from Wrigley Field in 1971. Hey Mediafreak, how often did you see Da Bears at Soldier Field  ? ? ?

  2. if they'd put a dome on it, then chicago could host a superbowl.

    McDome

let's not get into this mess again. the city, state and team could never agree on where the McDome (named after former team president and chief jackass) michael mccaskey would go. the ass even went so far as threatening to move the team to Gary Ind, as part of some huge gambling complex there.

sds, i went to a couple of games at soldier field. my dad was never a big fan (being that he's from mexico where football there is futbol -- funny, tho, his citizenship ceremony was held under the colonnades). i think i saw more soccer games at soldier field than bears games. and the bears games i did see i saw from the pressbox.

i have no big problem with the remodeling. i wish the design was a little less 'modern.' there was a movement afoot to stop what they were doing to the stadium since it is on the national register of historic places. once it's opened, there's a sure chance it'll lose that designation.

one thing, one side of the stadium's grandstands will tower above everything. but the geniuses who designed it made the higher grandstand the one that faces the lake. if i'm a bears season ticket holder, i want my seat on the other side. no way i want the wind coming off the lake in january hitting me square in the face.

    Re: McDome

Practical vs. Artistic. Unfortunately the fans usually come up with the short end of that stick, and end up having to pay more for it.

Bump :) . . . . That is interesting . . . how come the skyboxes weren't built on the side facing the lake  ? At least the glass will protect them from the cold . . . But its cool thought that they saved the colonades (?) on each side of the stadium :) . . . At the former open end of the field (across from the museum), I think they are going to make it a big hill (it will start from the stadiums mezzaine level). Its going to make for a kickass sledding hill when it gets done :D :D !!!!!

That's awesome! I was in Chicago last Christmas and I had no idea what was going on with Soldier Field. I have been to a few Bears games there. I loved the old stadium. It has so much character. It will be so different. My highschool marching band performed a half-time field show there in 93. I saw Pink Floyd there in 94. That was an awesome show. 8th row in the pouring rain that made the lazers and light effects sparkle all around us. We are going back to Chicago next weekend and maybe we will go check it out.
