I did, took about 10 min once I learned the ropes. Once you do it it's easy to stick a new HD in there as well, good stuff.

Did you load a bunch of games on the hard drive? I am going to get a XBox360 this summer for online games and wouldn't mind modding my old box with a bunch of other games

Well, the HD it comes with is only 8 gigs, so you can put 2-3 games on there at a time. I put in a 120 gig HD that was slower (5400 rpm) and lockable, thinking I could get online with it. But since I had already taken that XBox online with the original HD, I got banned from Live (only had a month left anyway, no big loss). Once you take an XBox on Live you have to keep that HD married to that particular XBox, but if you bought an XBox that hasn't been online, you can put a lockable HD in there and jump on with legit games. However, at any time MS could scan people's drives and ban them.

As far as my setup, I'd say I have 25 games or so on my HD. I've got my Xbox networked so it's easy to FTP into it and transfer any game I d/l into the Box. Also there are programs where you can copy a real game directly onto the HD if you want to rent from Blockbuster.

One of the great things about softmodding is that you don't need a mod chip, so no messy soldering. I fried my first XBox like that, kind of made me wary to mod any other ones. The softmod all you need is a real copy of one of three games, and a way to get the software package on a Memory Card. If you have a friend with a modded XBox you can FTP into it and view the MC as a separate drive, and place the files in that way. I actually made a cable to hook my controller into a USB port, and fooled my PC into thinking I had an Action Replay. Of course, if you have an Action Replay you can use that too.

The best program to throw on a modded XBox is XBox Media Connect. It allows your XBox to play just about any media you throw at it. You can share folders on your PC (beware if you use a wireless router and don't know anything about security) and stream movies right to your TV. Even your porn movies. You can also play legitimate DVDs without needing the remote/dongle. With this program you can even stream all your mp3's and internet radio stations, it kicks ass. It's 10x better than the media capabilities of the X360 + Windows Media Center, but of course can't play HD stuff.

There are emulators allowing you to play virtually every system up through the 16 bit era, including Neo Geo. There is a Mame version that will play arcade roms up trough about 1995. One of the great things about this is that most emulators allow you to stream your roms over your network, so any you've got on your PC already won't have to be duplicated. Also, it allows you to use your precious HD for XBox games.

Because of this and XBMC, my XBox will stay hooked up to my TV at least through this next generation of consoles. Even when I'm no longer playing XBox games, I will still use it as my main emulating system and my main movie player.
