The Southern Conference has got to change it's formula for tiebreakers. The recent log jam atop the Southern Conference standings has brought attention to the tiebreaker formulas. If there is a tie at season's end the final tiebreaker is points scored. This should not be a factor in neither college or high school football. If the players are not being paid millions of dollars, they should not be subjected to fourth quarter beatings due to the other team's positioning for a tiebreaker. ASU coach Jerry Moore has taken a knee late in games a couple times already this year. At the moment Elon holds a point tiebreaker over the other teams in the tie. It is not Coach Moore's style to run the score up on team's late in a game. Earlier today on WXIT's Sportspage in Boone, guest Mark "Pac-Man" Packer said " points should never be a factor in the tiebreaker system". I would like to hear others feelings on this subject.

:icon_bs: I agree that there should be a different tie breaker, but App can't wear the white dress here. They have regularly run up the score when they could, like most of the rest of the teams in the Southern Conference. Look at some of App State's games from the past three years, particularly last year when they were so dominant. These aren't running up the score?

    2007:

    9/8 vs. Lenoir Rhyne 48-7
    10/6 vs Gardner Webb 45-7
    11/03 vs The Citadel 45-24

    2006:

    9/16 vs Mars Hill 41-0
    9/23 vs Gardner Webb 41-6
    9/30 vs Elon 45-21
    10/7 vs Chattanooga 56-21
    10/28 vs Furman 40-7
    11/4 vs The Citadel 42-13
12/9 (playoffs) vs Youngstown St. 49-24

    2005:

    9/24 vs The Citadel 45-13
    10/22 vs Wofford 49-17
    11/19 vs Elon 52-14

ASU could have put 70 or 80 on some of these teams, and I'm not saying that in a cocky way. Your numbers do not show that players not listed in the program were playing the fourth quarter of some of these games. No, Coach Moore has never been the coach to just bury teams when they are down and out. You cannot tell the players that practice hard all year and finally get into a game not to go execute the game plan.

Point spread would be a better measure, as you wouldn't get penalized for being a great defensive team.

    Point Made

ASU 79 WCU 35, There is the product of a tiebreaker system using the scoring method. Like I said, ASU could put 70 or 80 on some teams and had chosen not to do so, until they were forced to. Neither coach enjoyed the final score of today's game, but you cannot play it any other way if you are ASU. I do not like this tiebreaker and feel it should be changed after this season.

actually I wouldn't call any of those running up the score? 40 something points? Who the hell calls that "running up the score?" Especially when many of those opponents are Div II schools. Only pussys complain about the score being to high.

Now I know why ASU put 70+ on WCU today
