I'm not positive. Brown and Byrd can, but as I said before benching Smith does not preclude him from being used, just being used as a starter and feature player - if you can call this fuck-up offense where the leading receiver has one or two catches a feature role.

I suspected he would be a butthole in his interview, but he ate crow.

He may be wierd and fiesty, but he's a class guy. At least as far as wide receivers go. Wide receivers seem pretty wierd, generally.

They do have to have that attitude. I believe that Owens takes it too far. Moss obviously does. But receivers should be very self-centered, they should have confidence. the best ones do. The ones that go to the Hall differ from those that never make what they should of themselves by being just as selfless when it's not his time.

Washington's ego is a little much. But his attitude is what we need - he doesn't accept failure. For the most part, this offense seems as much resigned to it as it is unsurprised.

they would never bench Smith. He is their man of the season. He makes the same mistakes or worse and still is the main target of the quarterback no matter who is open. Ike will be demoted if we bring another receiver in here

thanks. I always read but don't think I've ever posted here before. I've spoken to some of you on other boards under a different name, VAFan

I suggested 2-3 weeks ago that Steve Smith get demoted from his position at WR.

I suggested 2-3 weeks ago that Steve Smith's primary responsibility be Kick Returner.

I suggested 2-3 weeks ago that if the above 2 things happened that you would see Steve return his focus to the return position.

Steve has jumped in this year as the #2 WR coming off a great KR year. He knows over the long haul he'll get the bigger contracts/exposure etc at the WR position. He has not been able to light it up at WR so he was trying to light it up as KR. - fumble.

I say bench him now as WR, use him selectively at that position. Make him understand, his livelyhood revolves around what it did last year, as KR.

    Problem solved - NEXT.

What's up VA. You were at the Lair right?

Sandy, I think a good many of us were looking for that. I was uncomfortable with him through the first moment he was named starter, wanting to be judged wrong.

I still have a bit of a problem with that.

I'd love to be able to demote Smith to only KR. But we can't, really. 3rd reciever, yeah, maybe, but he'll have to see time at reciever. Simply stated, we don't have anything behind Byrd or Smith, which makes not going after a cheap vet a bit confusing, as it was to many of us in the preseason. He is our only reciever with real deep speed, though Moose has able to get deep a few times.

I also don't know believe that simply benching him will make him a better returner. The same problems were their last year. He's had a couple of nice returns, none to the house, and a couple wee called back. But just like last year, those few big plays were also sprinkled between unneccesary fair catches and fumbles.

    He's the same player.

agree with everything in that summary pip

he's always been a bit of a high risk player on returns and that has improved only marginally

real deep speed? what kinda speed does he have? does he truly have deep speed and, if so, has he made use of that deep speed as a receiver at anytime this regular season? i think he's got open deep a couple times but it seemed more as a result of the secondary losing him than him outrunning the defense. is he a legit deep threat? i haven't seen it. he made a long TD catch in preseason that i thought was more of a fluke than anything and thought we wouldn' see much of that again and we haven't, i don't think. so what do you think is up? is it him or henning or our QBs?
