    Scouting Report/Merv's Notes Section

    Merv's Notes

I could spend hours talking about this guy. Andy Marte, without a doubt, in my mind, is the top positional prospect in this system. You could spend hours talking about his Gold Glove defense, his arm, the bat, whatever... If you get a chance to see him play, do it now before he gets to Atlanta.

He has shaken the doubts so far about the "Myrtle Beach" theory (aka their field is a hitter's graveyard). He leads the Carolina League, at this writing, in extra base hits and has improved his plate discipline. He shook off a very early slump and is closing in on the top ten in batting average.

    Scouting Reports

Nearly every scouting report I have read about Andy Marte has gone along my lines of thinking. Time is running out to catch him in the minors because within the next year or two he will be manning third base in Atlanta for the next 10-15 years.

i say .240, 16 hr, 67 rbi for mark. Not bad really. I was mainly just bitching for the sake of bitching. I have nothing against mark. I sometimes think it might be more productive to get chipper back at 3rd and someone like gary matthews in LF. But that's just me.

yeah, that .215 BA is lighting up opposing pitching so far. Nice call on derosa. I guess it's really not that bad considering how bad the braves are hitting in general though.

I'm just fucking with you though, in reality, injuries have really killed the braves.

The Braves need help. Third place with a rock. The Braves pitching can't fall back on the bats like they did last year.

We'll see, I'll stand by my original projections which are looking to be generous. Tons of errors and a .215 batting average don't make me feel too bad about my prediction. My RBI total is looking extremely generous at this point. Anytime you have to defend someone, you always bring up the "how many games" bullshit. The fact remains, he's playing like shit right now.

he has started to come around as of late. those errors you speak of, well most of those were in one game. to be honest, i've never seen anything like what happened that day out in colorado. don't forget to bring up the several damn nice plays he has made too.

i too, stick by my original prediction. he is in the process of turning it around.
