Didn't think you were arguing at all.

But the question came up which was more 'defiling' to the body -- beer or diet soda. His point (as I saw it) was that while beer is villified, much of what the same people who speak out against alcohol put into their bodies is just as impure. His point was made, and it was a good one. The spinoff debate to determine which was 'worse' is pointless in this context.

Seriously, there is something you need to know though and it may be the same way there...
But in the South, people hug a lot- I didn't want you to be put off by it when someone hugs Hasbeens or he when someone picks you up and spins you in a Jethro hug  .

I'm like Plu with the smoking thing. In a restuarant (if I'm in the smoking section) and the people near me are eating - then I don't smoke. I make a real effort when I smoke, not of offend and irritate those around me that don't. However, this politeness is sorely tested - when I go to all that trouble and I'm still given flack `by the man'. If I'm outside, by myself (or whatever) - I don't appreciate a lecture about how I'm killing things, ruining the environment, responsible for global debt etc. I was at a work thing recently - (actually, it was the military combat thing I had to attend) and after hours of kicking and punching, I slipped out for a cig in the break. This twit comes out to join me - not to smoke, but really to voice his distain for my habit. As I finish, I drop the cig on the ground, stub it out and as I'm bending down to pick it up he starts screaming and pointing at me..."YOU are a filthy PIG. It's people like YOU who give smokers a bad name". I stood square on and said "F*ck off Mr Pointy finger. I DON'T take shit from a man in socks and sandles and especially one who is wearing a peach coloured jacket and has a perm". Well, that kinda ended that wee discussion...but I'm just wondering why people feel the need to comment on it - when I'm not in their face doing it? Would they go up to a member of the Hells Angels and say the same? And while I'm on the rant - how come alcohol gets off from all of this `name and shame' thing. I'm not actually anti anything (really) - but when you take into consideration the social problems alcohol causes - vs the rap it gets on the public stage, there seems to be a noticable gap there. Okay - sorry, I've ranted on unintentionally :).
