he's 2,553 yards and 3 seasons from pulling ahead of James Lofton to be 8th all time... I think that's attainable without an injury

Actually most of the guys on that list played with mediocre quarterbacks. One thing to be concerned about is that WRs fall off a cliff around this age. Hopefully Steve can be an exception.

Wow, that's a little harsh. I think longevity and the type of offense are pretty key. Lots of passing teams in this list.

Rice had Montana, Young and Gannon
Owens had Young, Garcia, McNabb and Romo
    Wayne and Harrison had Peyton
Bruce and Holt had Warner and Bulger airing it out
    Reed had Kelly
Largent had Zorn (NFLN just did a piece putting them in top 10 passing combos)
    Joiner had Fouts
    Maynard had Namath
    Irvin had Aikman
    Ward had Rothlisberger
Mason had McNair in Tenn and Balt
    Jimmy Smith had Brunnell
Carter had Culpepper, Cunningham and Brad Johnson
Moss had Cunningham, Culpepper and Brady
    Monk had Theisman and Rypien

Fryar, Lofton and Tim Brown had to deal with a few different QB's I think but even Fryar had Marino for a stint, Lofton had Kelly and the Raiders aired it out under Gannon.

You could make a case with Ellard having mediocre guys in Everett and Gus but even Jim threw the ball alot and he had success under Gus too.

And Tony just wont quit and has been abusing LB's for year, probably the GOAT TE. And even he had Grbac, Green and Ryan throwing for almost 4000 yards a year.

Its actually almost surprising to see two Panthers so high considering our conservative approach under Fox but I guess not using our TE's so much meant those two guys saw the majority of passing targets. We really only had 3 bad years of passing stats under Weinke, Peete and the Jimmy, Bline and Jake were actually pretty successfull for them.

Smitty could actually crack the top 10. I'd like to see that.

If people stop watching those they just might stop making them and be forced to do something other than a circa 2002 VH1 knockoffs to fill out programing.

Oh and Baltimore Steve McNair and Brad Johnson were some pretty mediocre QBs.

Most of those names were mediocre. But yeah, style of offense helps, although you can also rack up stats if you get a huge percentage of your team's targets. I can't remember a Panthers offense truly spreading the ball around except maybe that brief stint under Seifert-Buerlein.

NFLN just hit cable this year. Everything is new to me right now.

Brad was pretty good in Minn, a very underrated QB IMO. The Vikings actually traded him to Washington for a 1st (11th overall), a 2nd and a 3rd rounder.

McNair was only in Balt 2 years and the second was the beginning of the end. But the first year he was typical McNair, they did go 13-3 that year. I was trying to highlight the continuity at QB Mason had. Are we really gonna call a one time NFL MVP mediocre? He had Flacco after him too. Not too shabby. Boller was the only real mediocre guy he had to deal with.

You missed the glory days, they used to fill out the day with classic games, or days of the NFL films team reviews where each day was a new team- cool stuff. Now all you can look forward to is America's Game.

It's basically ESPN with a very NFL focus now, even a morning show meant to ape First Take. At least they have the best lineup of eye candy any sports network puts out right now.

I'll call anyone mediocre when they play mediocre, he was a game manager by then and comepletely useless in their playoff game. And Flacco was generally average until TEH PLAYOFF GRATENESS

EDIT: Just realized I lost the Brad Johnson quote- there's been QBs traded at inflated prices forever that doesn't make them better it means someone will always overpay

He was what he was. He always hovered around the 3000 yards passing and 60% completion rate. Same as in Baltimore where he hit 63% and 3050 yards. That playoff game was a kickfest BTW, Peyton was just as bad a passer that day.

Just pointing out he had value at the time. I think Baltimore wanted him too but were only willing to give up a 1 and 3. He had 4000 yards passing his first year in Wash and went to the pro bowl.

Cunningham going 13-1 and their contracts was why he was let go. Both were getting paid well for the time. He wanted to start.
