    Steve Smith 'questionable' for Panthers season opener

    Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith missed Wednesday's practice and is listed as questionable for Sunday's season opener against Atlanta. Smith missed most of training camp and the entire preseason with a left hamstring injury and an ingrown toenail. But Smith's absence Wednesday was due to a different injury. Coach John Fox said Smith tweaked his other hamstring in Tuesday's practice.

    I posted when the 1st hammy came up, that I disagreed with posters saying Smitty didn't need camp or practice, that he'd be ready to play when needed. I further said that perhaps he needed MORE preparation than he thought he did. Remember he forfited $100,000 not to participate in the off-season workout program. And I remember how he faked the stretching exercises at practice. Maybe what he thinks he needs and what he actually needs are 2 different things.
