Great news! ESPN news said it was a 5 year extension so does anyone know what kind of money Johnson is making?

very good to hear...and opposite of what the management said they would do. They were going to focus on the RFA first and Stve second. I sure hope we are close on Grant and Wallace, with all the OG now available I imagine we'll se James coming home...assuming he doesn't wait too long and we sign his replacement.

educated guess is it's 6 years, $28.2 million, with an $8 mil bonus or $6 mil with $2 or more million in other guaranteed money later in the contract.

    I could dig that.

I don't mind giving him what he wants up front - the scariest part of the Johnson contract wasn't the $5 mil a year, it was the 2/5 of the contract up front - but I'm cool with that if we have clauses in there that relieve us of some cap situations if needed.
The easiest way to do that is have roster bonuses that can disappear per the team's wishes if there are negative incidents, which would be written up in detail in the contract.

That's how the Bengals should have worded the things they were doing three years ago. By having written-in bonuses that are already earned but can be taken away because of specific situations, you make a negative incentive without it being an incentive.

that's basically what I meant, just some insurance against any type of outbursts or what-not. Doesn't really matter what form it takes.

Steve on his new contract extension:

"Hats off to the Richardson family, especially his wife. She probably saved me from getting killed by him. "
