Smith blows up verbally

I'ts funny cuz Karl came home today telling me about this whole thing and I just blew it off. I didn't realize it was in the paper and made into a huge deal.

 

Smith's value? probably less than Hakim's, because Hakim got way too much. But I'd give him $2.5 mil or so, maybe more, and stagger the bonuses. Give him what they gave Kris right now - $1.5 mil - and spread it over five years. Add roster bonuses in two years, three years, and so on. Sell it as a five year extension worth, say, $10 mil, with a $3.5 or four million bonus structure, but you give him little up front. And of course it's really a seven year deal, including this and next, for $13 mil. Under $2 mil a year.

I dunno. In some ways I'd like to have Smith signed soon. Why? Because I still believe and want a better receiver than him here, and having him in will keep him from bolting when that happens.


Agree that it's possible, to likely, that the team was telling Smith to get better before he asked for money. That seems to put the comment in context.

I'll stand behind it for the time I stated it. Obviously he's gotten just a little better since.

 

who could've known? only smitty. but that's what's funny about people being so definitive in their remarks, as if they do know something.

 

Nobody knew Smith would turn into what he is now, so I think it's okay to let that one go.
