Yeah, it'd matter, but it wouldn't stick in my mind the way the blowing up would. It'd still be the talk of the team, and it was still in front of the same group that saw him blow up last year.

    That's alot.

Mags - you seem to have a thumb on values. What's Smith worth?

My take - 5 years $8 or 9 million, max. Put some incentives in it - if he gets 1000 yards, or 10 TD's, or 80 catches, or something and actually plays like a stud he gets more.

Pay him top dollar as a KR, and then add incentives based upon his play as WR. He thinks he is better than a marginal WR, then put up or shut up

His contract has to be hard, because I don't think there's another #2 WR in the league that is the #1 KR & PR

Signing bonus unknown in all cases

    Tim Dwight:

    2001 1115000.00
    2002 600000.00
    2003 900000.00
    2004 2225000.00
    2005 2200000.00
    2006 2300000.00
Total less signing bonus = 6 year, $9.35 million

    I think that's a damn good comparable.

    Jermaine Lewis:

    2003 655000.00
    2004 660000.00
    2005 900000.00

    Az-Hakim

Heavily backloaded, if all fails this is OK. I think Smith is a better receiver....

    Salary History

    2002 525000.00
    2003 1000000.00
    2004 1850000.00
    2005 2350000.00
    2006 4625000.00

    Dante Hall:

    2003 450000.00
    2004 535000.00
    2005 750000.00
    2006 875000.00
    2007 1000000.00

There's an idea. Seriously. I think that's how I'd structure it, if it were up to me.

I agree it could motivate him, but what happens when hes got the contract........... We have a history of tieing up a lot of cash for no production and I can't stand it when a player has a break-out year that just "happens" to be during his contract year. Then the following years slacks off cause he's paid. Not saying he would, but he could.

Damn shame Steve had to go and skip a day off his Lexepro! Now it'll be Sunday before his temperment settles back down again.

That's common place in pro sports unfortunately.
