I disagree. I think this is just Smith's 5'8" hyper defensive attitude getting freaky and temper fit.

I say sign him fast. Get it done. If he's stupid and think's he's a top 10 cash guy, then fuck no.

It's gotta be the money. It's not whether or not Smith is being considered to get a new contract, it's whether they want to give Smith what he's worth. But saying that he's not going to get a contract? He knows he's RFA, they know he's RFA. To be honest they just tender him and that's basically an extra year. They have no obligation to do anything right now. It's not the Panthers' fault they're not going to throw a ton of money at a hothead who, as Dave said, isn't the team's best receiver on a team that doesn't have any great receivers.

We don't need this, not at all. Smith says he won't be distracted by it, but he's going to throw a hissy? Hell, at least Muhammad at one point was doing something to go get a check. The only thing Smith's ever excelled at is returning, and you don't give $4 mil to a guy to return kicks. As good as Scotty O is, making the players he made, we could go get a return man and he could make that player potent without the anger.

what perplexes me is the positive tone that his agent was spouting this morning in todays fishwrap article. i'm guessing steve was offered an amount that was too low for him- and his agent tried to up the ante and the panthers refused. when this happened, his agent asked why? and the panthers responded by he's great on special teams but a marginal reciever. which is the truth. why couldnt they wait on this shit till after the season- we pressed our good luck.

Technically Dyson has this week and 1 more week before he can start practicing with the team (PUP Stipulation). They are expecting him back in "November" (I know that's general, but that is what they said).
