I've read the manual. Now I need to understand how to really work my Canon XTi. Any website recommendations?

    Larry,

I currently use Adobe Photoshop Elements. What is the difference between that and Lightroom?

    lightyears.

lightroom, which i use, is for RAW shooters. it gives you far more control over your final images.

shooting raw takes up a lot more room on your hard drive, too.

i recommend that you shoot in JPEG mode until you can make your exposures properly.

Forget the websites, take it out and use it. Learn what it will do. If you are really up to the challenge, put it in manual and learn the relationships between shutter speeds and f stops. Learn what is best for a situation - shutter speed or f stop. Auto isn't always best.

A great little program, that is also free, for viewing and doing minor things with your photos is called XnView. Google it and download. Great little program.
