Hey Jazz, I finally took the time to download Birdland from the Weather Report... Its the same tune I'm talking about.... If you have high speed I'll email the mp3 from the Quincy jones, just send me a PM...

Now my question is who did the first song first? I know the QJ version was done in the early 80's I think....

    SandMan,

The tune "Birdland" is Joe Zawinul's brainchild. He wrote it, formed the band WEATHER REPORT with saxist Wayne Shorter(one of the most creative players and composers in jazz today)
a few years after he left Cannonball Adderly.
Both Shorter and Zawinul were with Miles Davis also.

Many groups have recorded "Birdland" because of it's popularity.

[You can take that to the bank. :)]

So have you heard the version from the QJ LP?

"So have you heard the version from the QJ LP?"

    Nope.

I'd like to give it a listen, if you'll be so kind as to post the cd
    title.

I'm familiar with QJ writing and arranging though, especially in a jazz format. He did some things for Basie back in the 60s that are
    quite memorable.
I'll warn you ahead of time, I'm partial to the original WEATHER REPORT version. I know Quincy can do some raucous funk, if the money's right. :)
