Bossa nova and light latin stuff always worked for warming up.

I liked Weather Report's "Birdland" for afterwards.

I'm stretched now, its late, but I want to say that the Blackbyrds had a tune named "Birdland" - hmmm it was semi Jazz type, I think.

Wow SandMan, you must have been born yesterday;)

The "Birdland" I spoke of was by a '70's(?)fusion group called
WEATHER REPORT. They were jazz musicians doing crossover instrumental fusion stuff, very successful I might add; not like the
Beatles or Matthews, but quite successful for jazz type fusion.

1963 - Anyway, I can't find it now...but no it was not the Blackbyrds song I was thinking of... Quincy Jones did an LP with multiple artist that had a tune called Birdland...

I'm off to do some research to confirm...:D

It took me a few minutes to confirm but yea, there was a song called Birdland on a Quincy Jones LP - Back on the Block which featured many great singers like Howard Hewitt ( I think), Tevin Campbell, Barry White, and many more... Birdland, If I am correct featured Miles Davis, Coltrane, and Dizzy G... (thought he had been dead a while?) anyway - cool tune - no lyrics.

    SandMan,

Don't doubt you for a minute. The word "Bird" was used many times in jazz, mostly in reference/memory of the great jazz alto saxophonist Charlie "Bird" Parker. He, along with Thelonious Monk(originally from Rockmount, NC), Dizzy Gillespie, and a few others are credited with starting modern jazz/bebop.
