Almost triple what Clones or Matix Reloaded brought in.

"Powered by unprecedented anticipation and marketing hype, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith lured millions of faithful to cinemas across North America on Wednesday night grossing an estimated $16.5M from midnight shows, according to preliminary figures released by Fox. The astounding figure, which will count towards the opening day gross for Thursday, May 19, does not include grosses from the 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. shows many theaters programmed. By comparison, Episode II: Attack of the Clones grossed $6.2M from midnight shows three years ago when it launched with 1,400 theaters offering the early showtimes.

Enormous sales are expected all day and night Thursday and could propel Sith to the biggest opening day gross in box office history. The current record is held by 2003's The Matrix Reloaded which captured a staggering $42.5M on its opening Thursday in May 2003 including about $5M from night-before previews which began a bit earlier at 10:00 p.m. instead of 12:01 a.m. like with Episode III.

About 2,900 of the total 3,661 theaters playing Revenge of the Sith offered midnight shows hoping to attract hardcore fans eagerly waiting to see how Anakin Skywalker turns to the dark side of the Force to become Darth Vader. With megaplexes showing the final George Lucas Jedi flick on multiple screens, the total domestic print count soared to more than 9,000 exceeding the 8,517 print count for The Matrix Reloaded and stretching far past the 6,000 count for Star Wars Episode II from May 2002."

I'll probably wait til it comes on tv, or maybe rent it on sale to see it. After the first coupla Star Wars back in the 70s I kinda burned out on'em, got the gist and have seen 'bout all that interests me.
